The 50,000 sm (540,000 sf) Chongqing Library is an important educational, cultural, and social center. It is a main center for documents exchange and houses over 3.8 million books. The modern building design by prominent architectural firm Perkins Eastman keeps the traditional form of the Chinese courtyard. ADG provided structural design services and coordination with the local engineering firm. Structural challenges included designing a customized waffle slab system that complied with the Chinese Building Code requirements, a 4,000 sf cantilevered lecture hall, a four-story tall glass façade and steel tree columns in the periodical reading areas.
